Exhibiting Inclusion: An Examination of Race, Ethnicity, and Museum Participation

Abstract Museum visitors are not reflective of the diversity present in communities around nation. In this study, we investigate racial and ethnic art museum participants as well potential motivations barriers to visiting a museum. Using General Social Survey, examine race ethnicity arts participation USA. We find Black individuals less likely attend an than white individuals. Certain participating may explain part lack diversity. Latinx motivated participate museums for cultural heritage reasons more individuals, but unrelated perceiving admission fees barrier. This research highlights urgency field make inclusive.
